The small-town life of Oklahoma helped give me far away eyes. After receiving my B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Central Oklahoma, I decided to try my luck in the Pharmaceutical Industry and found a position as a Quality Control Chemist in New Jersey.
I felt obligated to continue working for the company that had hired me. This was partly because they took a chance on a farm-boy with a chemistry degree, and partly because I was thankful to be employed. Jobs like this were sparse in Oklahoma and I tried my very best to make an impression and move up the chain.
My loyalty paid dividends when my peers left for other opportunities I moved up very quickly. I attribute this to the work ethic instilled in me by my family and growing up in Oklahoma.
As my career progressed, I found myself ten years older and missing home. Every chance I got, I perused the job ads in Oklahoma and followed the state’s business news regularly. There was little opportunity for someone that wore the hats I did.
When Project Boomerang was born, I was excited that Oklahomans had not forgotten those of us whose roads had led out of state. I was encouraged when reading about the Research Plaza, and quickly found a company that was interested in my background and experiences. Much of my successful return I attribute to Project Boomerang, and I applaud the hard work and initiative put forth.
Although I am still in transition, and my story is not yet complete, I know I have made the right decision to return to Oklahoma – My Home.
