Midwest City | Dayton, OH | Norman | Boulder | Oklahoma City

christina-dukeman-headshotEven though I was born in southern California I moved to Midwest City in the third grade. After graduating high school, I moved to Dayton, OH, but later moved back to Norman to finish my degree at the University of Oklahoma.

In 2004, my husband’s job at Seagate Technology moved us to Colorado. It was a tough decision to move away from family and longtime friends but it was a great career opportunity for him. We made the leap with our two children, who were only 8 months and 2 years old at the time.

We made great friends and eventually I landed the perfect job at Seagate as well. We thought we’d be there forever, but when I came back to Oklahoma City in 2007 to celebrate my 20-year high school reunion, I was surprised at how much I longed to be back here. Downtown Oklahoma City had grown so much in just the four years since we’d left, and I loved reconnecting with old friends.

That summer, I asked my husband what he’d think if I said I wanted to move back. At the risk of derailing both our careers, he said “I’d like to be back near family, too. We’ll make it work.” I looked online and found a position at the Oklahoma City headquarters of Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores. I received a job offer in September. They even paid for our relocation, which sealed the deal. We were back home by October. My husband was able to secure another position with Seagate here in Oklahoma City, so it worked out perfectly.

We are so happy since coming back! We’re near my husband’s family, one of my brothers, and my niece. Grandma and Grandpa babysit often and couldn’t be more delighted that we moved back. I regularly get together with many of my old high school friends and former professional colleagues.
