Bartlesville-Stillwater-Tulsa-Phoenix-Houston-Bartlesville
When I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2000, I wanted to see the world. Luckily for me, I was afforded that opportunity while working for a Fortune 150 company right here in Oklahoma. Australia, UK, Ireland, Venezuela and Canada have all been stamped on the back pages of my passport.
Like any young, wide-eyed 20-something, though, I figured I was missing out on brighter lights. I jumped at the first opportunity to transfer to Phoenix, and later, Houston. While each afforded their own set of advantages and unique experiences, I could never consider either of them HOME. I was not an Arizonan, nor a Texan. I am an OKLAHOMAN and this is my HOME.
I have made my way back to Bartlesville working for what has grown to be a Fortune 5 company. Upon my return, I was not only greeted with open arms from family members, but to my surprise there was a strong base of young, enthusiastic people already here. Collectively, we have started a young professional’s organization; actively pursued/campaigned for recreational and school bond issues; and witnessed the opening of several new restaurants/bars, including 2-3 downtown where a new hotel is slated to be constructed in the near future.
The growth of our city, and Oklahoma as a whole, has introduced many transplants to something we natives have always noted as Oklahoma’s most endearing feature…families and neighbors. It never ceases to amaze me the way we come together not only in celebration, but also during trying times of tragedy. This state has seen its fair share of disasters, natural and manmade alike. And, each time it’s the resolve of her citizens that brings Oklahoma back together and reminds each one of us that this is HOME.
